Grafham Bank Match 28 April
It was a wet and windy day at Grafham for the
10 brave souls which ventured out of the first match of the season.
At the start of the day everyone was dispersed to all parts of the
lake but apart from Harley catching a couple at Deep Water Point
there was little action. Nick Preston finally found fish in Pig bay
in mid-morning and steadily caught 4 including the biggest fish of
the day at 5lb 7oz (although this did appear to be an incredibly
large stockie) but then the fish moved on.
Around lunchtime a pod of fish came in close to
Deep Water Point and Chris McLeod made the most of it, catching 7 in
a couple of hours including a superb overwintered fish of 4lb 12 oz
– he also lost a couple at the net (which we would come to regret at
the weigh in). Harley was the first angler to catch his limit but
knew that his 8 fish would not be enough. Chris Bobby also managed
8 fish at Deep Water Point and Derek Bravington 5 despite arriving
there after 2pm.
The match was won by Mark Brinkman who tried
all around the dam in the morning without success before switching
to Hill Farm to catch his limit in little more than an hour. Mark’s
tactic appeared to be a very steady and slow roly-poly with a team
of buzzers. Andy Linwood and Nick both fished in this area but
could not get the same result.
Final results were that 10 anglers caught 48
fish:
