What
an excellent event this has turned out to be. Over the past six
years it has, under the excellent guidance and management of GWFFA
vice-chairman Gordon Watson and Danny Peet of EDFF, become a first
rate social and fishing occasion.
Significant numbers of friendships have developed between members of
the two organisations, the atmosphere is informal, friendly and
conducive to a super day out, regardless of the fishing. With 70
anglers taking part it has become one of the biggest days in the
Grafham calendar; despite the inevitable hard work due to the
numbers, Anglian Water must also be highly delighted with the
turnout.
This
year members of the Invicta club had been invited to join in the day
and we were delighted that significant numbers attended. I’m sure
most sufficiently enjoyed the day to make this an annual diary
fixture.
What a
busy day it was. I believe every boat was taken; in addition to the
35 GWFFA/EDFF boats some of the England ladies team were out
practising for their international event in the near future whilst
another lucky few took the balance of boats for a spot of
recreational fishing.
Whilst
full results will appear in the next newsletter, successful pairs
were:
Top
boat: Danny Peet and Ron Lusardi (16 fish for
42lb 11oz)
Second
boat: Andy Linwood and Rick Varley (16 fish for 40lb
07oz)
Third
pair: Dave Waters and George Todd (14 fish for
37lb 02oz)
Best
bag: Danny Peet 8 fish for 22lb
09oz
Best
fish: Peter Oldham 4lb
03oz
The vast majority of
participants stayed for a relaxed meal and extensive raffle (though
not sufficiently so for me to win a prize). GWFFA chairman Peter
Hartley rightly recognised the huge contribution to the day of
Gordon Watson, Danny Peet and John Mees and his staff. A great day
out – thanks to one and all. |
